Building Confident Learners

Services

The following various services are provided one-to-one, in person in downtown Natick, and virtually anywhere. They are specifically designed to meet the needs of the client (from elementary students to adult learners).  In addition to these services (listed below) homework, test prep, and transitional support is available for any client.

Executive Function Skills

With the client, we will practice skills that improve working memory, develop regulation, and create flexible thinking.  Time management, organizational skills, prioritization, and goal setting will be developed to match the different needs of students and adults. Working with students, I will help them to learn about themselves to create different ways to prepare for exams, test, quizzes, etc.

Reading & Writing

I utilize different reading programs that allow students with diverse needs to reach success. The Orton Gillingham approach may be utilized for learners who benefit from a multisensory approach. Programs that organize language (such as Visualizing and Verbalizing or Brain Frames) may be applied to develop reading and writing skills.  For older students, there might be an emphasis on developing comprehension skills or working memory strategies for different types of texts. Additionally, older students may need direct instruction on breaking down writing assignments and structuring specific components of an assignment.

I provide support to high school and college level students who may need support through any aspect of the writing process.

Mathematics

I work with students to tailor math concepts to how they learn best. I use manipulatives and hands on approaches to building mathematical skills.  Solid instruction is grounded in Base Ten development, the foundation of math concepts.

Advocacy

504 or IEP? Grade level or college level?  No matter where you are in the process, I will work with you and your student to determine the most appropriate action.

I work with parents to navigate the Special Education process. I carefully unpack the data to help parents understand their child’s educational needs.  Then, I work as a team member with the district to create a program that supports the whole student.  My philosophy’s foundation is to take a student centered approach.

Additionally, I assist parents with their rights through the disciplinary process for students in special education. My background as a special education teacher, parent, and education specialist enables me to understand the different roles and stakes involved.

I am trained by the Federation for Children with Special Needs as an Educational Advocate and volunteer as a Special Education Surrogate Parent.
